Denis Cheryshev to Liverpool: Reds handed transfer deadline day boost
Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane admits that Denis Cheryshev could be set to leave the club on Monday
Liverpool have been handed a boost in their reported pursuit of Denis Cheryshev after Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane admitted that the winger could leave the Bernebeu on transfer deadline day.
Reports in Spain over the weekend have claimed that Liverpool could be set to make a late bid to bring the Russia international to Anfield as Jurgen Klopp looks to strengthen his attacking options at the Merseyside club.
The 25-year-old has only played 117 minutes for Real Madrid so far this term and has been linked with a move away from the La Liga giants.
Now, Real Madrid boss Zidane has conceded that Cheryshev could leave the Spanish club before Monday evening’s transfer deadline.
Speaking at a news conference on Sunday night, Zidane said: “Yes, we are going to see tomorrow but I think he could still leave.
“The important thing for him is to have playing time. He is a great player, he needs time and I wish him the best.
“If he has the chance to leave and play, then I am delighted for him. We will see tomorrow.”
Cheryshev is eager to play more regular first-team football in the lead-up to this summer’s European championships in France.
Liverpool are currently gearing up for their Premier League trip to Leicester City on Tuesday night.
