Frimpong and more: Twitter reacts to Flamini’s Arsenal performance
Mathieu Flamini comes in for criticism on Twitter after his forgettable Arsenal cameo performance
Mathieu Flamini would be best served steering clear of Twitter for the rest of the week after the Arsenal midfielder was heavily criticised for his contribution in Tuesday night’s 2-0 loss to Barcelona.
The France midfielder replaced Francis Coquelin in the 82nd minute as Arsene Wenger sought to add fresh legs to his midfield following Lionel Messi’s 71st-minute opener at the Emirates Stadium.
However, Flamini failed to collect a poor pass from team-mate Per Mertesacker and brought down Messi in the penalty area to give the visitors a chance to secure a 2-0 aggregate lead.
The Barcelona forward duly dispatched his penalty to put the Champions League holders in control of the tie ahead of the second leg at Camp Nou on 16 March.
Unsurprisingly, Twitter had plenty to say on Flamini’s cameo performance against the La Liga champions and social media didn’t hold back in their scathing assessment of the 31-year-old’s contribution.

Flamini, a man clever enough to produce a renewable replacement for oil, doesn't know that steaming into Messi in the box is a bad idea.
