Gilberto Silva: Roberto Firmino is adapting to striker role for Liverpool
Former Arsenal midfielder Gilberto Silva says Liverpool star Roberto Firmino isn't a natural centre-forward
Roberto Firmino is adapting to his striker role in the Liverpool team, according to Gilberto Silva.
The Brazil international has been in superb form for the Merseyside outfit over recent weeks after the playmaker initially made a slow start to his Anfield career.
Firmino scored his sixth Premier League goal against Sunderland on Saturday before he made his fifth assist of the campaign in the 2-2 draw at Anfield.
While Silva doesn’t believe Firmino’s best position is a centre-forward role, the former Arsenal midfielder has been impressed by his compatriot’s versatility.
“I don’t think being a centre-forward is his best position but he is adapting the best way for Liverpool to help the team,” said Silva, speaking exclusively to 888sport.
“It’s not easy because he’s a young boy. I saw the 5-4 recently and he scored twice and did well.”
Firmino started his impressive run with a brace in a 3-3 draw with Arsenal at Anfield last month.
The Brazilian was on the score sheet twice and made a goal in Liverpool’s crazy 5-4 victory over Norwich.
Firmino will hope to score his seventh Premier League goal of the season when Jurgen Klopp’s side make the trip to 20th-placed Aston Villa in the Premier League on Sunday.
