Gilberto Silva: Why I like this Arsenal star being unhappy
Gilberto Silva says Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain can’t become comfortable being an impact substitute
Gilberto Silva says he is pleased to see that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain isn’t happy with his lack of first-team football at Arsenal.
The 22-year-old midfielder scored his first Premier League goal of the season in Arsenal’s 2-0 victory over Bournemouth last weekend.
The England man started just his eighth Premier League game of the season at Dean’s Court on Sunday, although he has made a further 13 appearances from the bench.
Former Arsenal midfielder Silva, who spent six seasons at the north London side between 2002 and 2008, says Oxlade-Chamberlain can’t become comfortable being an impact substitute.
“I like that he is unhappy with not playing,” said Silva, speaking exclusively to 888sport.
“I would be very frustrated myself and if you are comfortable on the bench that’s something that is very wrong. He has to give himself every opportunity to get back into the starting eleven and this is only something he can do himself.
“No-one will do the work for him. He has to find a way.”
Oxlade-Chamberlain has scored one goal in 21 Premier League appearances for the north London side so far this season.
The 21-year-old has made a further eight appearances in cup competitions, including the Champions League and the FA Cup.
Arsenal host Premier League leaders Leicester City in a must-win game for the Gunners at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.
