Glenn Hoddle believes Erik Lamela is playing with more confidence after Tottenham Hotspur’s 5-1 win against Fiorentina on Thursday night.

The Argentina international doubled Tottenham’s advantage in the second leg with a clinical left-footed finish after Ryan Mason’s opener.

Spurs were on to secure a 3-0 victory over Fiorentina and set up a Europa League last-16 meeting with Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund.

Speaking to ITV Sport after Tottenham’s 4-1 aggregate win, Hoddle heaped praise on the South American after his eye-catching display.

“He has definitely played better this season but he is playing with confidence now,” Hoddle said.

Lamela became Tottenham’s club-record signing in 2013 after he moved to White Hart Lane in a £30.75m deal from Serie A side Roma.

The South American playmaker has scored three goals and has made four assists in 23 Premier League games so far this season.
