Glenn Hoddle: This is the key to Tottenham’s title challenge
Glenn Hoddle assesses Tottenham's Premier League title chances after their impressive 2-1 win at Manchester City
Glenn Hoddle believes that Tottenham’s impressive defensive record this season could be the key in the Premier League title race.
Spurs moved up to second place in the table and to within two points of Premier League leaders Leicester City on Sunday thanks to an impressive 2-1 win at Manchester City on Sunday afternoon.
Tottenham have been solid at the back this season and have conceded the fewest goals of all of the top-four teams this season.
And former Spurs boss Hoddle feels that the north London side are very much in the Premier League title race thanks to their solid rearguard.
Speaking to Unibet, Hoddle said: “They’ve got this work ethic, they’re really playing well for each other, they press the ball…
“They’ve got match winners in Harry Kane, in Christian Eriksen – they’ve got players who can score goals.
“But the key for me, which is strange for Tottenham, is that they’re not conceding goals. I think they’ve got the best goal difference in the top four. That’s going to be a real key as well.
“So yes, they’re very much in the hunt [for the title] – and it’s a great opportunity for Spurs like never before.”
Goals from Harry Kane and Christian Eriksen handed Tottenham an impressive victory at The Etihad on Sunday afternoon.
Tottenham’s next Premier League game is a home clash against Swansea City on Sunday 28 February. Spurs host Crystal Palace in the fifth round of the FA Cup on 21 February.
