Glenn Hoddle says Marcus Rashford looks like a real prospect for the future after the Manchester United starlet’s impressive debut in a 5-1 win against Midtjylland on Thursday.

The 18-year-old youth product was included in Louis van Gaal’s starting line-up after Anthony Martial picked up a late injury in the warm-up ahead of the second leg of the Europa League last-32 tie at Old Trafford.

The Manchester-born teenager put United ahead in the second half after Pione Sisto’s opener for the visitors was cancelled out by a Nikolay Bodurov own goal before the bereak.

Rashford scored United’s third to cap a special debut before Ander Herrera and Memphis Depay sealed a 5-1 victory.

Ex-England manager Hoddle heaped praise on Rashford for his nerveless debut in front of a packed Old Trafford in the Europa League.

“He looked comfortable in the game with his team-mates. He didn’t have any time to get nervous,” Hoddle told ITV Sport.

“He wasn’t told last night that he was playing. He was thrown into the deep end. His hold up play, his back heel and his change of pace; he looks a real prospect.”

United were drawn against north-west derby rivals Liverpool in the Europa League last-16 draw on Friday afternoon.
