Glenn Hoddle: Why Mesut Ozil holds the key for Arsenal v Barcelona

Glenn Hoddle discusses the importance of Mesut Ozil to Arsenal ahead of Barcelona clash on Tuesday

Glenn Hoddle has earmarked Mesut Ozil as Arsenal’s key player in Tuesday’s Champions League clash against Barcelona at The Emirates.

Arsene Wenger’s side host the Champions League holders in the first leg of their last-16 clash as the Gunners look to progress to the last eight for the first time since 2010.

Ozil has been Arsenal’s standout player so far this season after a return of four goals and 17 assists in 24 Premier League games.

Former Chelsea, AS Monaco and Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Hoddle says Ozil will need to get on the ball to pull the strings for Arsenal if the Gunners are going to have a chance against Barcelona.

“Ozil has to get plenty of the ball and release the strikers on the counter-attack,” Hoddle told Unibet.

Ozil moved to Arsenal in a club-record £42.5m deal from Barcelona’s bitter rivals Real Madrid in 2013.
