Graeme Souness: This Arsenal star will rub salt into Man United’s wounds
Graeme Souness says Danny Welbeck will have a point to prove when Arsenal take on Manchester United on Sunday
Graeme Souness believes that Danny Welbeck could be the man to inflict further misery on Manchester United when Arsenal travel to Old Trafford on Sunday.
Welbeck recently made his return from a lengthy lay-off with a knee injury as he came off the bench to score the winning goal in Arsenal’s 2-1 win over Leicester City at The Emirates earlier this month.
United boss Louis van Gaal opted to let Welbeck leave Old Trafford to join the Gunners following his appointment as Red Devils boss back in the summer of 2014.
And former Liverpool man Souness feels that Welbeck will be desperate to prove a point against his old club on Sunday afternoon.
Speaking to Sky Sports News HQ, Souness said: “Welbeck’s return could be timely, and he’s one who will be hoping he’s in the starting eleven and gets to rub salt into the wound.
“He was at United from a young age, and he’s a Manchester lad, so in that situation I would certainly be wanting to prove they were wrong to let me go.
“There will be a part of him that feels rejection, and that’s a natural reaction – he should have that feeling.”
