Guillem Balague delivers latest update on reported Chelsea target
Diego Simeone will not leave Atletico Madrid to join Chelsea this summer, according to Guillem Balague
Spanish football expert Guillem Balague has played down the chances of Diego Simeone leaving Atletico Madrid to take charge of Chelsea this summer.
The Blues are currently on the lookout for a new manager following Jose Mourinho’s sacking back in December.
Guus Hiddink has been placed in temporary charge at Stamford Bridge but the Dutchman is set to leave the club at the end of the season.
Simeone has been touted as a possible target for the west London club as they continue their search for a new manager.
However, Balague does not believe that the Argentine is likely to leave Atletico before the summer of 2017.
Speaking in a Q&A session with Sky Sports on Monday, Balague played down the chances of Simeone taking over at Stamford Bridge.
Asked if Simeone could join Chelsea in the summer, Balague replied: “His priority is to stay with Atletico and be the coach that takes them to the new stadium which should be open in the summer of 2017. So I expect him to stay for next season.”
Chelsea, who are 13th in the table, take on Newcastle United at Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening.
