Guus Hiddink reacts to Eden Hazard’s performance in Watford v Chelsea

Guus Hiddink insists that he was happy with Eden Hazard's display during Chelsea's goalless draw at Watford

Guus Hiddink has insisted that he was happy with Eden Hazard’s performance after the Belgian playmaker’s substitute appearance during Chelsea’s goalless draw at Watford on Wednesday night.

The Belgian playmaker came on for the final 17 minutes as the Blues were held to a stalemate by the home side at Vicarage Road in the Premier League.

Hazard has been struggling to produce consistent form for the west London club in recent months but produced a much-improved display as he scored his first goal of the season in Sunday’s FA Cup win at MK Dons.

The 25-year-old is working his way back towards full fitness following his lay-off with a groin injury – and Hiddink was satisfied with his contribution on Wednesday night.

Speaking at his post-match news conference, Hiddink said: “Eden played in the FA Cup for a longer period.

“He is coming back from a difficult time with two injuries. We are being careful with him as we have a lot of games coming up now.

“I am happy with the way he played when he came on. The judgement is when to bring him on. We were in control and then we tried to get him to make the final punch which we almost did.

“For himself it’s good to go step by step and we have a lot of games coming up when we need all the players.”

Hazard will be hoping to feature when Chelsea host Manchester United at Stamford Bridge in Sunday’s crunch clash.
