Louis van Gaal’s future has been a constant source of speculation in recent weeks following United’s stuttering form under the Dutchman.
Back to back victories over Shrewsbury Town and FC Midtjylland have gone some way towards easing the pressure on the Dutchman heading into this Sunday’s crunch clash with Arsenal at Old Trafford.
However, former Tottenham and Queens Park Rangers manager Redknapp is convinced that United have already decided to appoint Mourinho as Van Gaal’s successor in the summer.
Redknapp is quoted as saying by the Daily Express: “Jose Mourinho is the red-hot favourite to go in there and to me it seems pretty much a done deal.
“The club have never denied it. He can save them but they need to buy top players.”
United – who finished fourth last season – head into Sunday’s crunch clash in fifth place in the Premier League table and six points behind the top four.
The Red Devils have been paired against Liverpool in the last 16 of the Europa League after Friday’s draw.
