Jack Wilshere sends message to Arsenal fans and players ahead of Barcelona clash

Injured Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere urges the Gunners fans to get behind the team for Barcelona clash

Jack Wilshere has urged the Arsenal supporters to make the Emirates Stadium a fortress for the visit of Barcelona.

The England international won’t feature on Tuesday night as the England international edges towards full fitness following a prolonged spell on the sidelines with an ankle injury.

Arsenal are aiming to beat Barcelona for just the second time in 10 attempts in the Champions League, as well as reach the quarter-finals of the competition for the first time since 2010.

And Wilshere is under no illusion about the size of the task facing his Gunners team-mates at The Emirates on Tuesday night as Arsene Wenger’s men look to emulate their home win against Barcelona in 2011.

Arsenal have only beaten the Catalan side once in nine meetings in Europe’s premier club competition ahead of Tuesday night’s clash at The Emirates.

Andrey Arshavin and Robin van Persie cancelled out David Villa’s opener to secure a 2-1 win before Barcelona were 3-1 winners in the second leg in 2011.
