Jamie Redknapp believes that winning the League Cup on Sunday could lay down a significant marker for future success at Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp.

The Reds head into Sunday’s showdown with Manchester City at Wembley in search of their first piece of silverware since the German coach’s appointment as Brendan Rodgers’ successor at Anfield back in October.

Liverpool have failed to find consistent form under Klopp this season and are currently nine points adrift of the top four.

And former Liverpool midfielder Redknapp feels that lifting the trophy on Sunday could provide a stepping stone to future success for the Merseyside outfit.

Speaking on Sky Sports News HQ on Friday morning, Redknapp said: “Jurgen Klopp’s got so much money in the bank with the fans – they absolutely adore him.

“Now if he were to take a trophy to Liverpool then you think things could really start to improve.”

He continued: “If they win this one, I think they could go on next year and really start to press and push to become a top-four side regularly because I think Jurgen Klopp’s got that feel-good factor at the club going again.”
