Jamie Redknapp reacts to Alexis Sanchez’s display in Arsenal v Leicester
Jamie Redknapp discusses Arsenal's Premier League win over Leicester City at The Emirates on Sunday
Jamie Redknapp has claimed that Alexis Sanchez had one of his worst games in an Arsenal shirt during Sunday’s dramatic 2-1 win over Leicester City.
The Chilean had been out of action since November and only recently made his return to the starting line-up following his lay-off with a hamstring injury.
Sanchez struggled to make an impact in Sunday’s game as he miscued a number of shots in both halves.
However, he was not left to rue his misses as Danny Welbeck came off the bench to score a stoppage-time winner after Theo Walcott had cancelled out Jamie Vardy’s penalty.
And former Liverpool midfielder Redknapp admitted that Sanchez was far from his best against the Foxes.
Writing in his column for the Daily Mail, Redknapp said: “They were far from their best — Alexis Sanchez had one of his worst games in an Arsenal shirt — but the result closes the gap.
“Danny Welbeck’s return is also a huge boost. He and Theo Walcott both came off the bench to score, which shows the strength of Arsenal’s squad. They might not have the best XI of the title contenders but the strength of their squad could be crucial.”
Sanchez will be hoping to feature when Arsenal return to Premier League action with a trip to Old Trafford to face Manchester United on Sunday 28 February.
