John Barnes: Jurgen Klopp will make four or five signings this summer
John Barnes says Liverpool supporters must trust any signings Jurgen Klopp makes
John Barnes believes Jurgen Klopp will make four or five Liverpool signings in the summer transfer window.
The Reds have already reached a pre-contract agreement with Cameroon international Joel Matip, with the Schalke defender set to become a free agent at the end of the season.
We can’t be disappointed that we haven’t signed Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi or the best players in the world
Klopp signed Marko Grujic in a deal from Red Star Belgrade in January but the teenager was loaned back to the Serbian club until the summer.
The Liverpool manager, who took over the reins from Brendan Rodgers in October, also brought in Steven Caulker on loan following an injury crisis at the back.
Former Reds skipper Barnes is confident that Klopp will get his summer signings right, even if Liverpool don’t land any big names.
“It’s going to be more than one or two transfers in,” Barnes is quoted as saying by Liverpool Echo.
“I think you can see we have the basis of a good team but more importantly we’re going to trust Jurgen.
“If he brings in four or five players, even if we haven’t heard of them, and he knows they can fit into his style and strategy and what he wants to do, we have to trust him enough to do that.
“We can’t be disappointed that we haven’t signed Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi or the best players in the world.
“Whoever he signs, regardless of whether we’ve heard of them or not, will help Liverpool because he will know how to get the best out of them.”
Liverpool were 6-0 winners against Aston Villa at Villa Park in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
The Reds are in eighth place in the Premier League table.
