Juan Mata sends respectful Twitter message to Chelsea fans after Man United draw

Juan Mata thanks Chelsea's fans for their respect after Manchester United's 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge

Juan Mata has taken to social media to pay tribute to Chelsea’s fans for the reception he was given at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

The Spain international played most of Manchester United’s 1-1 draw against the Blues but was substituted in stoppage time to a chorus of applause from the Stamford Bridge faithful.

Mata spent two and a half seasons at Chelsea before eventually joining Manchester United in January 2014.

And the playmaker was clearly humbled by the reception given to him by Chelsea’s fans during Sunday’s game, if his latest post on Twitter is anything to go by.

Mata tweeted on Sunday evening:

After a goalless first half, Jesse Lingard put the visitors ahead with a stunning turn and shot into the top corner in the 61st minute.

But Chelsea equalised in the 92nd minute when Diego Costa found a way past David De Gea and fired into the empty net.

The result left United in fifth place in the Premier League table and six points behind fourth-placed Manchester City.
