Jurgen Klopp reacts to Liverpool’s 0-0 draw with Augsburg
Jurgen Klopp admits he is not 100 per cent satisfied with Liverpool's performance against Augsburg
Jurgen Klopp admitted that he is not 100 per cent satisfied with Liverpool’s goalless draw with Augsburg in the first leg of the Europa League last-32 tie on Thursday night.
The Reds struggled to make the breakthrough against a resilient Augsburg side as Daniel Sturridge was limited to a number of half chances.
It’s important we speak with the team about the things we can improve
The Bundesliga side hit the woodwork in the second half but Liverpool managed to maintain their unbeaten record in Europe this season.
The five-time European Cup winners host Augsburg at Anfield next Thursday ahead of their League Cup final against Manchester City at Wembley.
Speaking at his post-match media conference in Germany, Klopp expressed his disappointment with Liverpool’s performance and result.
“At the end, it’s a 0-0 and I’m not 100 per cent satisfied,” Klopp said.
“We have a chance in the second game, of course, and hopefully we can use it. I want us to play the level we are able to more often.”
He continued: “We could have created more chances, that’s clear. You saw the moments when we played the wrong pass, lost patience or made the wrong decision. Things like this can happen, I know this and it’s not a big problem.
“I could say 0-0 is a top result, let’s go home and win the second game. But I think it’s important we speak with the team about the things we can improve.
“Especially a compact formation – there were a lot of situations on the counter-attack where it was completely unnecessary that they had them.”
Liverpool aren’t in action again until the second leg of their Europa League last-32 tie.
The Reds are in eighth place in the Premier League table but six points adrift of fourth-placed Manchester City.
