Wenger delivers latest Arsenal injury update ahead of Bournemouth trip

Arsene Wenger confirms that Tomas Rosicky has suffered a fresh injury and is out for at least two months

Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Tomas Rosicky is set for another spell on the sidelines with a muscular injury.

The 35-year-old midfielder played the final 19 minutes of the Gunners’ 2-1 FA Cup win over Burnley last weekend but picked up a fresh injury problem that is set to keep him sidelined for a number of months.

Wenger confirmed that the veteran midfielder had suffered a fresh injury setback but refused to confirm that the Czech Republic international had played his final game for the club.

Wenger told a news conference on Friday morning: “Rosicky’s injury is quite a serious one. He will not need surgery. It is a partial rupture of his tendon. It could be two or three months.”

There was some good news on the injury front for the Gunners as Wenger confirmed that striker Danny Welbeck is set to feature for Arsenal’s Under-21s against Brighton and Hove Albion at the club’s London Colney training base on Friday.

The striker has not featured for the north London club this season after undergoing knee surgery last year but is edging closer towards full fitness.

Welbeck has been training with Arsenal’s first team in recent days as he steps up his rehabilitation and his last appearance for the club came in the 2-1 win over Reading back on 18 April.

Arsenal, who are fourth in the Premier League table, travel to Bournemouth on Sunday lunchtime.
