Guus Hiddink has insisted that he will not rush John Terry back into the Chelsea first-team following his spell on the sidelines with a hamstring injury.

The Chelsea captain has been out of action in recent weeks due to the muscular problem but has been working hard on his fitness as he bids to return to the starting line-up as soon as possible.

Terry sat out Chelsea’s 2-1 comeback win at Southampton on Saturday afternoon and will be hoping to prove his fitness in time for Tuesday’s trip to Carrow Road.

However, Chelsea interim boss Hiddink has refused to confirm whether Terry will be able to feature against the Canaries.

Speaking to Chelsea’s website, Hiddink said: “He [Terry] was working last week and he was on the pitch and we asked him how he felt and he said, ‘I feel OK but not ready to play.’

“If the medical staff say [he is available for Norwich] and John says so then I’ll be careful. I have the experience in the past with these kinds of injuries that the demands of the game are a little bit different from training, although it is heavy training.

“I prefer to wait, especially in relation to the games coming up. It’s not long because normally for hamstring and tendon injuries, depending on the grade of the injury, it’s longer than an ankle injury or whatever and I have the experience to wait maybe even a game longer than everyone thinks.”

Chelsea’s win at St Mary’s left the west London side in 11th place in the Premier League table and 11 points adrift of the top four heading into the final 11 games of the season.
