The latest Liverpool injury update after the Reds' disappointing 2-2 draw with Sunderland on SUnday
Dejan Lovren was taken off as a just a precaution during Liverpool’s 2-2 draw with Sunderland on Saturday, Pepijn Lijnders has revealed.
Lijnders fielded questions from the media after Saturday’s draw at Anfield after manager Jurgen Klopp was absent from the dugout for the game, with the German undergoing a successful operation due to a bout of appendicitis.
Lovren was substituted in the 12th minute during Saturday’s Premier League clash due to cramp, and Lijnders played down the seriousness of the defender’s problem after the game.
Lijnders told his post-match news conference: “Lovren felt cramp two or three times in the same position.
“[It was] very light so it was just a precaution to come off because it was in the same spot.”
The Liverpool first-team development coach went on to play down fears surrounding Joe Allen’s fitness levels after the midfielder was taken off in the 47th minute of the game.
He continued: “Allen was fatigued just before half-time and the scan has to show what comes out of that tomorrow.”
Liverpool were 2-0 up against the Black Cats at Anfield thanks to goals from Roberto Firmino and Adam Lallana.
However, the visitors snatched a point as they scored twice in the final eight minutes thanks to goals from Adam Johnson and Jermain Defoe.
