Lee Dixon: This needs to be Arsenal’s next signing
Lee Dixon wants Arsene Wenger to sign a world-class striker for Arsenal in the summer transfer window
Lee Dixon has urged Arsene Wenger to dig into Arsenal’s coffers and sign a big-name centre-forward in the summer transfer window.
Arsenal have failed to score in five of their last eight games, including Tuesday night’s 2-0 loss to Barcelona in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie.
France international Olivier Giroud hasn’t scored since his double in a 3-3 draw with Liverpool at Anfield on 13 January.
The 29-year-old striker extended his goalless run to eight games against Barcelona earlier this week, whilst Theo Walcott is struggling to get into the Arsenal first-team.
Former Gunners defender Dixon believes Wenger needs to make a world-class centre-forward his next marquee signing after the additions of Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez in the past few summers.
“I still think a big-name centre-forward, who guarantees you 25-30 goals is needed,” Dixon told ITV Sport.
“World-class strikers are few and far between. To go out and spend like that is Arsene Wenger’s next buy.”
According to reports in the British media, Arsenal will have £200m available for new signings in the summer transfer window.
