Liverpool legend tells Reds to ditch striker this summer
Dietmar Hamann is not a big fan of striker Mario Balotelli...
Dietmar Hamann has said that he would not bring Mario Balotelli back to Liverpool if he was in charge of the club.
The Italy striker is currently on a season-long loan at AC Milan and is due to head back to the Merseyside outfit at the end of the campaign.
He’s an above average player and that’s all he is
Milan have the option to turn Balotelli’s deal into a permanent one, but with the striker having scored just two goals in an injury-hit season in Italy, the Serie A side look set not to make a move to sign him.
That means he is set to head back to Liverpool in the summer, but former Reds midfielder Hamann feels that he does not bring much value to the side.
Speaking to talkSPORT, Hamann said: “Would I have him back at my club? No.
“He’s got a year left on his contract at Liverpool, so they’ve got to take him back. But they’ve got to find a solution. They’ve got to come to an agreement and probably will have to pay him up I would think.
“People talk about Messi, Ronaldo and Neymar and maybe one or two others, and a few years ago in the next bracket some of the fans would have had Balotelli. But to me, he never deserved that reputation.
“He’s the best penalty taker I’ve seen, which is an asset to have, but it’s not everything. He can be disruptive in the dressing room and he can divide teams.
“He’s got this reputation like he’s a world beater, but he’s not. He’s an above average player and that’s all he is.”
Liverpool, who thrashed Aston Villa 6-0 in the Premier League at the weekend, are currently gearing up for the first leg of their Europa League last 32 clash against Augsburg on Thursday night.
