Michael Owen states his prediction for Liverpool v Augsburg

Michael Owen looks ahead to Liverpool's Europa League clash with Augsburg on Thursday night

Michael Owen is fully expecting to see Liverpool reach the last 16 of the Europa League by beating Augsburg on Thursday night.

The Reds are preparing to welcome the German outfit to Anfield after enjoying a rare free weekend.

Liverpool played out a goalless draw with Augsburg in Germany last week and will be keen to secure victory on Merseyside and make progress in Europe’s second tier club competition.

And former Liverpool and England striker Owen is tipping the Reds to ease to victory on Thursday night.

Writing in his column for Bet Victor, Owen said: “I was in Germany last week and I wasn’t impressed with the Bundesliga outfit and would be surprised, and disappointed, if the Reds didn’t run out conclusive winners despite the visitors winning at Hanover at the weekend.”

Liverpool are also gearing up for their League Cup final showdown with Manchester City at Wembley on Sunday afternoon as Jurgen Klopp bids to win his first piece of silverware since his appointment at the club back in October.

The Reds could qualify for next season’s Champions League by winning the Europa League this season.
