John Barnes is tipping Liverpool to beat Manchester City in Sunday’s League Cup final at Wembley.

The Reds are looking to win the competition for a record ninth time after their penalty shootout victory over Stoke City booked their place in the Wembley showpiece.

Liverpool have form on their side after Jurgen Klopp’s side secured an impressive 4-1 win against the Citizens at the Etihad Stadium in their Premier League meeting earlier this season.

The Eastlands outfit, though, are nine points clear of Liverpool in the Premier League table despite suffering back-to-back defeats by title rivals Leicester City and Tottenham Hotspur.

Former Liverpool skipper Barnes is backing Klopp’s men to secure a thrilling 3-2 victory over City at Wembley in Sunday’s showpiece.

“I think it will be a high-scoring game because they are two good attacking teams so I’m going to go for a 3-2 win for Liverpool,” Barnes told Sky Sports.

City are in Ukraine on Wednesday night to face Dynamo Kyiv in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie.
