Nicky Summerbee has explained why he isn’t underestimating Liverpool ahead of Sunday’s League Cup final.

Manchester City are looking to win the Capital One Cup for the second time in three seasons after a 3-1 win against Sunderland at Wembley in 2014.

However, the eight-time League Cup winners stand in Manuel Pellegrini’s way as the Chilean looks to end his City career with some silverware.

The Merseyside outfit are looking to win the competition for a record ninth time and were 4-1 winners against City in the Premier League earlier this season.

Former City star Summerbee is tipping an attacking game between City and Liverpool in the Wembley showpiece.

“It’s a very, very important trophy. You can feel the atmosphere is different when you win it,” Summerbee told Sky Sports.

“I always look at it as an old pro. Never take anything for granted.

“People have come to me and said ‘you’ll beat them’ and I say ‘no, it’s a tough game’. I have great respect for Liverpool and great respect for their manager, as well.

“It’ll be a bit of a spectacle as well, a very entertaining, attacking game.”

An Eliaquim Mangala own goal and strikes from Philippe Coutinho, Roberto Firmino and Martin Skrtel secured a 4-1 win for Liverpool at The Etihd earlier this season.

Enhanced odds: Get 9/1 on Man City to beat Liverpool

Liverpool and City face each other for the second time in four days on Wednesday night when Pellegrini’s side make the trip to Anfield.
