Louis van Gaal jokes about facing Man United sack amid Jose Mourinho reports
Louis van Gaal was in a relaxed mood after Manchester United's 3-0 win over Shrewsbury
Louis van Gaal has joked that he will need some luck until the end of the season if he is to keep his job as Manchester United manager.
The Dutchman has found himself under intense pressure at Old Trafford in recent weeks following his side’s poor form this season.
United beat Shrewsbury Town 3-0 in the FA Cup fifth round on Monday night to ease some of the pressure on Van Gaal, whose side have failed to find consistent form this term and are currently fifth in the Premier League and six points adrift of the top four.
Jose Mourinho has been strongly linked with the Manchester United job and is the bookmakers’ favourite to take over from Van Gaal in the summer.
Van Gaal watched his side secure their place in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup and signed autographs for fans after Monday’s game.
One fan said: “All the best for the rest of the season, mate.”
And Van Gaal replied: “Yeah, we need it. Otherwise, I shall be sacked.”
United take on FC Midtjylland in the second leg of their Europa League last 32 clash on Thursday night, before turning their attentions to their Premier League showdown with Arsenal at Old Trafford on Sunday.
