Louis van Gaal makes admission about Man United’s Juan Mata

Louis van Gaal admits that Juan Mata has been in impressive form for Manchester United of late

Louis van Gaal has admitted that Juan Mata is making it difficult to drop him from his starting line-up following his recent form for Manchester United.

The Spanish playmaker was in fine form as he featured for 88 minutes during United’s 3-0 win over Stoke City at Old Trafford on Tuesday night.

Goals from Jesse Lingard, Anthony Martial and Wayne Rooney wrapped up victory for the home side as they returned to winning ways in the Premier League.

And United boss Van Gaal concedes that Mata has been in impressive form for the Red Devils in recent weeks.

Speaking to United’s website after Tuesday’s win, Van Gaal said: “He [Mata] participated in all three goals, that’s also what I like to see.

“When he’s playing how he is playing now, then the chance is big [for him to feature centrally more often].

“Every player has to do it every week, even my captain has to do that because everyone has forgotten that he was a substitute against Stoke away.

“It’s always the same with me, you have to prove it in every game and training session, and then you play. But when Mata plays like this, I cannot say to him ‘go to the bench’.”

Manchester United are now preparing for their crunch Premier League trip to Chelsea on Sunday afternoon.
