Louis van Gaal admits he is surprised by how quickly Anthony Martial has settled at Manchester United

Louis van Gaal has admitted that he has been impressed by Anthony Martial’s sparkling start to life in the Premier League following his transfer to Manchester United.

The 20-year-old produced another man of the match performance as he scored one and set up another to help United seal a 3-0 victory over Stoke City at Old Trafford on Tuesday night.

Martial, who joined the Red Devils from Monaco in the summer transfer window, has scored six goals and made three assists in 19 Premier League games for his new club so far this season.

And United boss Van Gaal admits that he is feeling positive about Martial’s potential to impress in England.

Speaking to United’s website after Tuesday’s win, Van Gaal said: “It is very much surprising when you are 19, now he is 20, and you come from the French league to the Premier League and you can do this when you are 19 years or 20 years old. You have a lot of potential to give then still.”

Van Gaal went on to reveal his delight at seeing United return to winning way sin the Premier League at Old Trafford.

He continued: “I am a happy coach. When you see how we created the goals, with fantastic play building up from the back and finishing – that’s what I like.

“In the second half we controlled the game and did not give any chances to Stoke City which is unbelievable because Stoke have made it very difficult for a lot of teams.”

The Red Devils now turn their attentions to their trip to Chelsea on Sunday.
