Louis van Gaal reacts to Man United’s 3-0 win over Stoke City

Louis van Gaal was a happy man after Manchester United's 3-0 win over Stoke City on Tuesday

Louis van Gaal could not hide his delight after watching his Manchester United side return to winning ways in the Premier League with a comprehensive 3-0 win over Stoke City on Tuesday night.

Jesse Lingard headed in Cameron Borthwick-Jackson’s cross to give United the lead in the 14th minute, before summer signing Anthony Martial made it 2-0 shortly after at Old Trafford.

Wayne Rooney then added a third when he scored from close range eight minutes after half-time.

It was a welcome three points for United, who headed into the game having only won two of their last 10 Premier League matches.

And Van Gaal was delighted with his side’s performance against the Potters at Old Trafford.

Speaking to BBC Sport, Van Gaal said: “It was a great first half, we scored fantastic goals and we created more chances above that. In the second we controlled the game, scored the third goal. It was very good.

“I think in 2016 we have only lost against Southampton in the last minute. We have more confidence maybe. I cannot say we now have more confidence because we lost to Southampton at home and that can never be.

“At home you have to win but I hope it gives us motivation to continue because in Derby we played very well also. Three goals eh? In a row!”
