Mark Lawrenson states his prediction for Tottenham v Crystal Palace
Mark Lawrenson believes Tottenham Hotspur have sufficient squad depth to beat Crystal Palace in the FA Cup fifth round
Mark Lawrenson has backed Tottenham Hotspur to recover from their Europa League exploits and ease past Crystal Palace in the FA Cup fifth round on Sunday afternoon.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side failed to win their first game in eight outings on Thursday night after a 1-1 draw with Fiorentina in the first leg of their Europa League last-32 tie.
Pochettino’s side do not create loads and load of chances but they are very hard working
Spurs have won their last five games in the Premier League and were 3-1 winners against Palace during that impressive top-flight run.
Former Liverpool defender Lawrenson is confident Pochettino’s well-drilled side can muster the energy to book their place in the FA Cup sixth round on Sunday afternoon.
“Palace still cannot buy a Premier League win. They have gone nine matches without a victory in the league and they can barely manage a goal – they have only found the net four times in those games,” Lawrenson told BBC Sport.
“Tottenham looked impressive in their win over Manchester City last weekend and I don’t think their trip to Italy to play Fiorentina in the Europa League will bother them.
“Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino has shown with their results already this season that he has a squad that can cope with European competition without affecting domestic form, and I am backing them to get another win on Sunday.
“Pochettino’s side do not create loads and load of chances but they are very hard working and, even with Jan Vertonghen out, they are still very difficult to break down.”
Tottenham are in second place in the Premier League and two points behind leaders Leicester City after their dramatic 2-1 win against title rivals Manchester City last weekend.
Spurs face Palace at White Hart Lane on Sunday before the north Londoners will host Fiorentina in the second leg of their Europa League clash next Thursday.
