Martin Keown: Why Arsenal won’t sign Zlatan Ibrahimovic

Martin Keown doesn't believe Arsene Wenger would take a gamble on Zlatan Ibrahimovic this summer

Martin Keown has poured cold water on talk of Arsenal signing Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the summer.

The Sweden international is expected to leave Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain at the end of the season when his contract expires.

Unsurprisingly, Ibrahimovic has been linked with a move to the Premier League in the summer, with Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United all touted as potential destinations.

However, former Arsenal defender Keown doesn’t envisage manager Arsene Wenger taking a punt on the towering 34-year-old striker.

“I don’t know whether Arsene Wenger would gamble on him – Zlatan had a chance years ago at Arsenal but turned it down – and given the wages and his age, it doesn’t feel like an Arsenal deal,” Keown told Daily Mail.

Ibrahimovic has scored 21 goals in 20 Ligue 1 games for the French champions so far this season.

The Swedish legend has played for Malmo, Ajax, Juventus, Inter Milan, AC Milan, Barcelona and PSG during a decorated career.

Ibrahimovic has won four Serie A titles, La Liga once, Eredivisie three times, the Super Cup and three Ligue 1 crowns.

However, the striker has never won Europe’s premier club competition, the Champions League.
