Mauricio Pochettino reacts to injury blow ahead of Fiorentina v Tottenham
Mauricio Pochettino delivers the latest Tottenham injury news on goalkeeper Hugo Lloris
Mauricio Pochettino has insisted that Tottenham can cope without Hugo Lloris after the Spurs boss confirmed that the goalkeeper is currently sidelined with a shoulder injury.
The France international picked up the problem late on during the 2-1 victory over Manchester City on Sunday and has been ruled out of Thursday’s Europa League trip to Fiorentina, as well as Sunday’s home clash with Crystal Palace in the FA Cup.
Tottenham are currently gearing up for the first leg of their Europa League last-32 clash in Italy, and Pochettino is confident that second-choice goalkeeper Michel Vorm will step up to the task between the posts in the coming games.
Speaking at his pre-match news conference on Wednesday, Pochettino said: “Hugo is our captain and is a very important player for us. In the last action of the game against City, he got a knock on his shoulder. He is out for this game and Sunday too.
“We need to assess him during the week and see if he is available next Thursday [for the Fiorentina second leg]. It’s not a big issue. It’s a very small injury. But it is important now to know that we have a good squad and all the players are motivated.
“We believe too in Michel, a top goalkeeper and we believe in him and trust in him. He can play well too. But we expect in one week that Hugo can play again.”
Spurs are currently flying high in second place in the Premier League table and have been touted by many to be genuine title contenders this season.
The Lilywhites are two points off top spot heading into the final 12 games of the season.
