Michael Carrick warns Man United over Anthony Martial

Michael Carrick tells Manchester United not to expect too much from Anthony Martial too soon

Michael Carrick has warned Manchester United not to expect too much from Anthony Martial too soon following his promising start to life at Old Trafford.

The French striker has been a regular fixture in the Red Devils first team this season following his big-money transfer from Monaco in the summer transfer window.

Martial has scored six goals and made three assists in the Premier League for Louis van Gaal’s men so far this term.

And the 20-year-old also netted twice in the Champions League group stage.

However, midfielder Carrick believes that United should be cautious about putting too much pressure on Martial as he continues to adapt to the rigours of the Premier League.

Carrick told United’s website: “His performances have been very good.

“I think we have to understand that sometimes he might not be that shining light and have days when it’s not quite happening for him, and that’s understandable.

“But over time he’ll improve and I’ve seen a big improvement already in this short time. Hopefully that trend will continue and he’ll get better and better.”

Martial, who has made 20 Premier League appearances this term, will be hoping to feature when United travel to Sunderland on Saturday lunchtime looking to return to winning ways after their 1-1 draw at Chelsea last weekend.
