Michael Owen makes bold claim about Man United’s season
Michael Owen discusses Manchester United's recent form ahead of Sunday's trip to Chelsea
Michael Owen has claimed that Manchester United are still in the Premier League title race, despite their inconsistent form this season.
The Red Devils are currently gearing up for their crunch clash with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon as they look to climb the Premier League table.
United produced a much-improved display as they beat Stoke City 3-0 at Old Trafford in the top flight on Tuesday night.
Louis van Gaal’s men have faced plenty of criticism in recent weeks for their style of play and had only won two of their last 10 Premier League games heading into their clash with the Potters.
Former United and Liverpool striker Owen says he is yet to be convinced by the Red Devils this season but accepts that his former employers could still have a say in the title race, with Van Gaal’s men currently seven points off top spot.
Writing in his blog for Colossus Bets, Owen said: “Some people may think Manchester United have turned a corner with three-goal defeats of Derby in the FA Cup and at home to Stoke earlier in the week, but I wouldn’t be in a rush to read too much into those results.
“But I suppose the fact remains that they are only seven points off City in second, and five behind Tottenham and Arsenal, so perhaps they are not totally out of the title reckoning. As bizarre as that sounds.”
