Michael Owen reacts on Twitter to Man United’s 5-1 victory
Michael Owen reflects on Manchester United's dominant Europa League win
Michael Owen has taken to social media to heap praise on Memphis Depay for helping to fire Manchester United to a thumping 5-1 win over FC Midtjylland in the Europa League on Thursday night.
The Dutch winger produced a scintillating display to help Louis van Gaal’s men reach the last 16 of Europe’s second tier club competition.
The Danish champions took the lead in the 27th minute at Old Trafford when Pione Sisto slotted home to put the visitors 3-1 up on aggregate.
However, United were soon level on the night when Nikolay Bodurov turned the ball into his own net five minutes later.
Teenager Marcus Rashford then scored twice in 12 minutes on his debut, before Depay netted and Ander Herrera’s penalty added further gloss to the scoreline.
Owen was impressed by the Red Devils’ dominant display, as well as Depay’s sparkling performance.
Owen tweeted after the game: “The opposition may have been average but that’s the best performance Old Trafford has seen for quite a while. Memphis was on fire!”
