Nigel Winterburn: Arsenal are a different team now
Nigel Winterburn has been impressed by what he has seen from Arsenal in recent weeks
Nigel Winterburn believes that Arsenal are starting to show the characteristics that will be needed if they are to end their long wait for the Premier League title this season.
Danny Welbeck came off the bench to score a stoppage-time winner as Arsenal came from behind to beat Leicester City 2-1 at Emirates Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
That result moved Arsenal to within two points of Premier League leaders Leicester City heading into the final 12 games of the season but they dropped back down into third place following Tottenham’s win at Manchester City later on Sunday.
Arsenal are looking to win their first Premier League title since their famous unbeaten triumph in the 2003-04 season.
And former Gunners defender Winterburn has been impressed by what he has seen from the north London side in recent weeks.
Speaking on Sky Sports News HQ on Monday morning, Winterburn said: “This is a different Arsenal to seasons before. Yes, they had their little blips. A few weeks ago they went top and didn’t win for four games.
“But they are showing when they need to deliver a performance, usually Arsene Wenger gets that from his team. It shows that there is a big togetherness within the squad. It was absolutely massive for Arsenal to win the game.
“Everybody was saying before this game that Arsenal had to win and you heard from Arsene Wenger after saying that a draw wasn’t good enough.
“Now they are right back in it along with Tottenham as well. You could now see that the leaders keep flip-flopping each week as the games go ahead.”
Arsenal’s next league game is a trip to Manchester United on 28 February.
