Paul Merson states his prediction for Chelsea v Man United
Paul Merson looks ahead to Chelsea's clash with Manchester United at Stamford Bridge on Sunday
Paul Merson is tipping Chelsea to edge to a thrilling 3-2 victory over Manchester United at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
The Red Devils head to west London having returned to winning ways in the top flight thanks to their 3-0 victory over Stoke City on Tuesday night.
Chelsea, meanwhile, were held to a frustrating goalless draw by Watford at Vicarage Road in midweek.
The two sides played out a goalless draw when they last met back at the end of December at Old Trafford.
But former Arsenal Merson is expecting a far more entertaining affair when they lock horns in the capital on Sunday.
Merson told Sky Sports: “This is a big game and a great way to end the weekend – a proper Super Sunday clash.
“Chelsea haven’t got much to play for – they can’t win the league or get top four – so I was surprised they didn’t open the game up at Watford and have a go. That’s been disappointing really.
“United probably had less possession than they’ve had all season against Stoke and they won 3-0. Michael Carrick’s return was key, he got the ball forward quickly and provided better service.
“This will be a good game, and I fancy Chelsea to edge this one.”
United head into Sunday’s clash in fifth place in the Premier League table and five points behind fourth-placed Arsenal.
Chelsea, meanwhile, are languishing down in 13th place in the table following their disastrous start to the season under Jose Mourinho.
