Paul Merson states his prediction for Liverpool v Sunderland
Paul Merson looks ahead to Liverpool's Premier League clash with Sunderland at Anfield on Saturday
Paul Merson is tipping Liverpool to return to winning ways in the Premier League when they host Sunderland at Anfield on Saturday afternoon.
The Reds head into the game looking to bounce back from the disappointment of their 2-0 loss at the hands of Premier League leaders Leicester City on Tuesday night.
Liverpool have struggled to find consistent from in the Premier League since Jurgen Klopp was appointed as Brendan Rodgers’ successor at Anfield back in October.
However, former Arsenal man Merson believes that the Merseyside outfit will have too much for the Black Cats at Anfield on Saturday.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Merson said: “Liverpool are struggling at the moment, Jurgen Klopp has come in and nothing much has changed.
“They sort of rolled over at Leicester, if I’m being honest. They’ve got a hard FA Cup game at West Ham coming up because Klopp rested his players for the first tie at Anfield, which confused me.
“Surely he should have gone the other way round and gone all out in the cup as they’re not going to win the league or get fourth.
“I’m rather unconfidently going for Liverpool here, although I’m not sure why.”
Liverpool head into the game in eighth place in the Premier League table and nine points adrift of the top four heading into the final 14 matches of the season.
Klopp’s men will take on Manchester City in the League Cup final at Wembley later this month.
