Paul Merson states his prediction for Tottenham v Crystal Palace

Paul Merson expects Tottenham Hotspur to ease to a comfortable win against Crystal Palace

Paul Merson is tipping Tottenham Hotspur to continue their unbeaten run when Spurs host Crystal Palace in the FA Cup fifth round on Sunday.

The north London side played out a 1-1 draw with Serie A outfit Fiorentina in the first leg of their Europa League last-32 tie on Thursday night.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side had won their last seven successive games before their stalemate in Florence ahead of the return leg next week.

Tottenham were 3-1 winners against Palace during that run as Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Nacer Chadli scored at Selhurst Park in the Premier League.

Speaking to Sky Sports, former Arsenal midfielder Merson backed Tottenham to beat Palace but offered a warning to Spurs manager Pochettino.

“Palace need to win a couple of games as they’re on a slippery slope, but I can’t go against Tottenham at the minute,” Merson said.

“However, Spurs do need to be careful. They need to draw a line somewhere if they want to win the Premier League.

“You can’t lose to Fiorentina, lose to Crystal Palace and then lose two league games – your season could be over in a blink of an eye. I’ve seen it happen to Arsenal. They go out of everything in February, usually in the space of a two week period.

“It all depends what they’re plan is. Foreign managers usually like the Europa League, but I don’t think they should go for it.

“They should be careful in Europe. It’s quite a big place. You’ve only got to get a bad draw and you could be travelling for five hours to get there.”

Tottenham are in second place in the Premier League table and two points behind leaders Leicester City.
