Paul Merson: Why I always worry about Tottenham Hotspur

Paul Merson expresses his concern over Tottenham Hotspur's ability to see out games in the final 15 minutes

Paul Merson has expressed his concern that Tottneham Hotspur could run out of steam in the Premier League title race.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side are in second place in the Premier League table and two points behind current leaders Leicester City.

Spurs were impressive 2-1 winners against title rivals Manchester City in the Premier League at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday thanks to Christian Eriksen’s late winner.

However, former Arsenal midfielder Merson believes Pochettino’s side are susceptible in the final 15-20 minutes of games as the Spurs players tire due to the manager’s demanding tactics.

“The manager has his teams play a certain way. They press and win the ball back. The players are fit,” Merson told Sky Sports.

“I always worry about the last 15 minutes with Tottenham because they work so hard in the first 70-75 minutes. He has good, good players working very hard as a team together. When you get that as a recipe, it works.

“These players are good players as well. They’re not just workhorses, they can all play, which makes a difference as well.”

Tottenham host Crystal Palace in their FA Cup fifth-round clash at White Hart Lane on Sunday afternoon.

Spurs face struggling Swansea City in their next Premier League game in north London on Sunday 28 February.
