Ander Herrera says he was delighted to see Man United's academy players step up in the Europa League
Ander Herrera heaped praise on Manchester United’s academy players after Thursday night’s 5-1 victory over FC Midtjylland.
The visitors edged into an early 3-1 aggregate lead after Pione Sisto evaded Michael Carrick’s challenge to put the Danish champions ahead inside 10 minutes.
However, on-loan Fulham defender Nikolay Bodurov deflected a Memphis Depay cross into his own goal to restore parity before Juan Mata failed to convert from the penalty spot.
However, United teenager Marcus Rashford scored twice in 13 second-half minutes to hand Louis van Gaal’s side a commanding 3-1 lead at Old Trafford.
Herrera scored a late emphatic penalty and Memphis’s goal sealed their place in the Europa League last-16 draw.
The Spain midfielder posted a photo of his goal celebration on Twitter, whilst the former Athletic Bilbao man heaped praise on the club’s youngster after an impressive European win.
