Rio Ferdinand gives ruthless assessment of Louis van Gaal’s Man United

Rio Ferdinand appears to have run out of patience with Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal

Rio Ferdinand says Manchester United have gone backwards under Louis van Gaal.

The Red Devils slumped to a humiliating 2-1 defeat by Danish champions Midtjylland in the first leg of their Europa League last-32 tie on Thursday night.

Van Gaal’s side have only won two of their last six games in all competitions, whilst United have failed to secure victory in eight of their last 10 outings.

The former Ajax, Barcelona and Bayern Munich manager was appointed as David Moyes’s successor in May 2014 after the Scot failed to guide United into the top four.

However, former England defender Ferdinand believes the 20-time English champions are regressing under Van Gaal.

United make the trip to League One side Shrewsbury Town in the FA Cup fifth round on Monday night.
