Rio Ferdinand: How Arsenal must react to Barcelona loss

Rio Ferdinand says Arsenal need to go on and win the Premier League title after their Champions League setback

Rio Ferdinand says Arsenal can make amends for their Champions League setback if the Gunners win the Premier League title.

Arsene Wenger’s side are facing a difficult assignment to get back into their last-16 tie with Barcelona after the Champions League holders were 2-0 winners in the first leg on Tuesday night.

This is the year Arsenal should go on and win it

Lionel Messi finally made the breakthrough in the 71st minute after an impressive counter-attacking move before the Ballon d’Or winner added a second from the penalty spot at The Emirates.

The Gunners make the trip to Barcelona on March 16 but the north Londoners will face Manchester United, Swansea City and Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League over the coming weeks.

And Ferdinand believes there is more expectation on Arsenal to win the Premier League title than there is for the Gunners to beat the best club side in the world, Barcelona.

“Going out to a Barcelona team, you can’t judge them on that,” Ferdinand told BT Sport.

“They’re capable of beating any side on the planet on any given day.

“The league has been so inconsistent, especially from the top teams like Chelsea, Man City and Man United.

“This is the year Arsenal should go on and win it. If they don’t then questions will be asked.”
