Rio Ferdinand reacts to Chelsea’s 2-1 loss at PSG
Rio Ferdinand has his say after Chelsea are beaten 2-1 by Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League
Rio Ferdinand hailed a positive result for Chelsea after the Blues lost 2-1 to Paris Saint-Germain in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 clash in Paris on Tuesday night.
The hosts went ahead in the French capital thanks to Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s deflected free-kick in the 39th minute.
However, Chelsea drew level in first-half stoppage time when John Obi Mikel powered the ball home from close range.
Edinson Cavani then came off the bench to restore the Ligue 1 side’s lead when he slotted his finish past Thibaut Courtois in the 78th minute to hand PSG the advantage heading into the return leg in London in three weeks’ time.
The result means that Chelsea could progress through to the quarter-finals with a 1-0 win at Stamford Bridge next month.
Speaking on BT Sport after the game, Ferdinand said: “It was a great game. I think Chelsea will be much the happier team with the away goal.
“We said before the game that the back four had to play well, and also the goalkeeper – and I think to a man they did well.
“They were very, very good and worth the away goal.”
Chelsea’s next game is their FA Cup fifth-round clash with Manchester City on Sunday afternoon.
