Robbie Fowler issues Liverpool with Jurgen Klopp warning
Robbie Fowler discusses Jurgen Klopp's impact at Liverpool
Robbie Fowler has warned Liverpool that Jurgen Klopp will need time to turnaround the Merseyside outfit.
The Reds squandered a 2-0 lead to draw 2-2 with Sunderland at Anfield in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
The big saving grace is we are in a cup final
Klopp’s side look unlikely to qualify for next season’s Champions League following their latest setback and the Reds are 12 points behind fourth-placed Manchester City.
Speaking following Saturday’s disappointing 2-2 draw with Sunderland, Fowler explained why Liverpool should be satisfied with winning the League Cup in Klopp’s first season.
“It’s been a lot slower than a lot of people would have wanted,” Fowler told Liverpool Echo.
“The big saving grace is we are in a cup final, and I don’t think many people would have expected that so soon into his tenure.
“Realistically, we want to finish as high up the league as we can but it’s getting tougher and tougher to get into a Champions League.
“Once he has been here a little bit longer, I’m pretty sure we will see more of what Jurgen has got to offer.”
The Reds face Manuel Pellegrini’s City side in the League Cup final at Wembley later this month.
The 18-time English champions are currently in ninth place and 18 points behind surprise leaders Leicester City.
Liverpool face West Ham United in their FA Cup fourth-round replay on Tuesday night before the Reds make the trip to 20th-placed Aston Villa in their next Premier League game on Sunday.
