Michael Owen states his prediction for Shrewsbury v Man United

Michael Owen looks ahead to Manchester United's FA Cup fifth-round clash with Shrewsbury Town on Monday

Michael Owen is backing Manchester United to make “serene” progress into the sixth round of the FA Cup by beating Shrewsbury Town on Monday night.

Louis van Gaal’s men slumped to another disappointing defeat on Thursday night as they were beaten 2-1 by Midtjylland in the first leg of their Europa League last-32 tie in Denmark on Thursday night.

That result followed the Red Devils’ 2-1 loss to Sunderland in the Premier League last weekend and heaped further misery on manager Van Gaal.

United are currently fifth in the Premier League and six points adrift of the top four heading into the final 12 games of the season.

However, former Liverpool and United striker Owen is backing Van Gaal’s side to return to winning ways against lower league opposition on Monday night to book their place in the sixth round of the FA Cup.

Writing in his blog for Bet Victor, Owen said:” Wayne Rooney will miss the tie through injury but I still believe United will have more than enough to make it through to the sixth round at the first attempt on Monday.
