Sol Campbell predicts where Chelsea will finish this season
Sol Campbell says Chelsea are unlikely to be able to finish in the top four this season
Sol Campbell believes that Chelsea have no chance of finishing in the top four this season after their disastrous start to the campaign.
The Blues head into Sunday’s showdown with Manchester United at Old Trafford looking to return to winning ways after the disappointment of their goalless draw with Watford at Vicarage Road on Wednesday night.
Chelsea endured a terrible start to their Premier League title defence under Jose Mourinho, before the Portuguese coach was sacked by the Blues back in December.
The west London side have shown signs of improvement in recent weeks since Guus Hiddink’s appointment as interim boss.
Chelsea head into this weekend’s game in 13th place in the Premier League table.
And although former Arsenal defender Campbell has been impressed by Chelsea improvements in recent weeks, he does not believe they are capable of finishing in the top four.
Campbell wrote on his blog for Sportlobster: “Chelsea have really turned a corner. They look strong and are playing with freedom. They’re now unrestricted and free to express themselves. Their build-up play has more cohesion now and that’s led to more control of the game and therefore goal-scoring chances present themselves more frequently.”
He continued: “I think some of the things that were going on at the club a few months ago weighed heavy on the player’s minds and a so a fresh start was needed to give Chelsea the lift they needed.
“However, I can’t see them getting into the top four now. It’s really just about the maths. One of Leicester, Man City, Spurs or Arsenal would have to fall away quite badly and I just can’t see that happening.”
