Steve Claridge states prediction for Man United’s top-four chances
Steve Claridge says he can't see Manchester United finishing in the top four despite 3-0 win at Shrewsbury Town
Steven Claridge has poured cold water on talk of Manchester United securing a top-four finish this season.
The Red Devils secured a morale-boosting win on Monday night as Louis van Gaal’s side were 3-0 winners against League One outfit Shrewsbury Town in the FA Cup fifth round.
United’s cup win ended a two-game losing run in all competitions following defeats by Premier League strugglers Sunderland and Danish champions FC Midtjylland.
However, Claridge is writing off United’s slim prospects of finishing in the top four and qualifying for next season’s Champions League.
“You can’t see United making up the ground to fourth place in the Premier League. I can’t see it,” Claridge told BBC Sport.
United are in fifth place in the Premier League table and six points behind derby rivals Manchester City, who occupy the final Champions League qualifying spot.
The Red Devils host FC Midtjylland in the second leg of their Europa League last-32 clash at Old Trafford on Thursday night.
Van Gaal’s side host Arsenal in their next Premier League game at Old Trafford on Sunday.
