Wayne Rooney has warned his Manchester United team-mates that they must put their victory over Stoke City behind them as they turn their attentions towards their Premier League showdown with Chelsea on Sunday.

The Red Devils produced a much-improved performance as they secured a 3-0 victory over the Potters in front of their home fans to return to winning ways in the Premier League.

Rooney scored United’s third goal after Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial had put Louis van Gaal’s men 2-0 up.

The England skipper was clearly delighted to help United secure a victory in the top flight after their 1-0 loss to Southampton last month.

But the United captain has warned his team-mates that they cannot afford to dwell on the result for too long as they prepare for their trip to Stamford Bridge this weekend.

Rooney posted the picture above on his personal Instagram account on Tuesday morning and wrote: “Strong team performance last night and one of our best this season.

“Now it’s time to prepare for Chelsea on Sunday #mufc.”
